Becoming a B Corp

I am thrilled to share that our business, The Cause Effect, was recently certified as a B Corporation or B Corp.

This means that we join a community of over 4,200 other B Corps in 76 countries, across 150+ industries. All businesses who have been recognised as having the highest ethical standards.

What is a B Corp?

Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balance purpose and profit.

B Corporations, or B Corps, make decisions to create a positive impact for their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.

Globally, B Corps are leading the way in using business as a force for good. There are over 350 B Corps in Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand including businesses like Intrepid Travel, Future Super, Outland Denim, KeepCup, Australian Ethical, Whole Foods, Flora & Fauna and Who Gives A Crap. Not to mention many more smaller businesses that you may not have heard of but who are punching well above their weight in ethical terms.

So you can probably see why we are so thrilled to be part of this community.

Why did we want to become a B Corp?

From the very first day we started The Cause Effect, we knew we wanted to certify as a B Corp, because we set-out to build an ethical business that we can be proud of. That means being the best kind of business we can and challenging ourselves to improve our ethical standards in areas we might not have considered. Besides, we encourage our clients to become B Corps or to consider it, so it was important for us to be able to walk the talk and understand what was involved in the process.

What we’ve learned along the way is that every business, no matter how small, has so many levers to do the right thing: for workers, customers, suppliers, communities and the environment. More levers than we realised before undertaking the process. That’s what’s so good about doing this, it opens your eyes to the opportunities and empowers you to take action.

It’s not an easy process to undertake. But damn! It’s mighty fulfilling when you get there.

If you’d like to know more about the B Corp process, feel free to reach out. I’ll be happy to share our experience with you and if you like, connect you with consultants who can help you through the process.
